UV Printing on Acrylic

• Common thickness for UV printed acrylic
• Thin gifts: 1mm, 2mm, 3mm (bookmarks, fridge magnets, small stickers)
• Standard signs: 4mm, 5mm, 6mm (door signs, machine nameplates)
• Thick decorative panels / logo backdrop: 8mm,10mm,12mm,15mm,20mm
• Industrial UV flatbed printers can handle material thickness up to 175mm

• Small format: A3 / 6090 UV flatbed printer. For small custom goods: bookmarks, fridge magnets, small nameplates.
• Large format: 1812industrial UV flatbed printer. For big backdrop wall, large light box, big signage.
• Must equip white ink + varnish ink system. White ink is essential for reverse back printing.

Printer requirement: Vacuum adsorption platform, auto height detection, anti-collision function. Keep acrylic flat during printing to avoid nozzle crash.

✅ Front Printing (Direct Printing)

Print artwork directly on the visible front surface of acrylic.

• Artwork: Normal orientation, NO mirror flip.
• Ink sequence: CMYK color → optional varnish. White ink optional.
• Pros: Simple workflow, low cost, fast production.
• Cons: Ink layer exposed on surface, easy scratch without varnish.
• Suitable: Low-cost simple signs, fridge magnets, bookmarks.

✅ Reverse Printing / Second Surface Printing (Back Printing, high-end preferred)

Print mirrored image on the back side of transparent acrylic. Customers view the pattern through the front acrylic panel.

• Artwork: MIRROR the whole design before printing
• Ink order: Mirrored CMYK color → White ink base layer → optional back protective coating
• Pros: Acrylic sheet protects printed ink, scratch resistant, glossy premium look, waterproof.
• Suitable: Machine nameplates, company logo wall, acrylic light box, premium door signs

1. Remove protective film completely on printing side. Wipe surface with alcohol to remove fingerprints, oil, dust and residual adhesive; dust will cause pinholes & ink drop-off.
2. Material selection: Cast acrylic is recommended. Extruded acrylic needs adhesion test first, easy ink peeling.
3. White ink test: Without white ink, pattern will be semi-transparent. Add white base for solid, vibrant colors.
4. Flatness: Thin acrylic (≤3mm) may warp after multi-layer printing. Use vacuum table to fix sheet firmly.
5. Varnish (optional): Gloss/matte varnish improves scratch resistance, UV outdoor weatherability.
6. Print head gap: Keep proper height, avoid nozzle scraping the acrylic plate.
7. Outdoor products: Select outdoor grade UV ink to prevent fading under sunlight.
8. Pre-sample: Always print a test sample for new acrylic material before mass production to check adhesion & color.
